The city of Maricopa is one of the most historic cities in the region. Located roughly 35 miles south of Phoenix, the small rural city has a unique and colorful history. Maricopa originally began as a major junction for the Southern Pacific Railroad company. Although the rail line revolutionized Arizona’s economy, Maricopa would branch off and develop into an agricultural community by the mid-1900s.
Maricopa officially became incorporated as a city in 2003, and as recently as 2000, there were only 1,000 residents. Now there are over 48,000 people permanently living in Maricopa and it is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country.

Although Maricopa is a smaller community, the area offers plenty of unique attractions for you to check out. This includes the Dwarf Car Museum that features a smaller version of automobiles manufactured during the 1960s and 70s. Ernie Adams, the owner of the museum, has been rebuilding cars since the 1960s when he was just a child. The UltraStar Multi-tainment Center in Maricopa is also a popular attraction that offers plenty of fun for the entire family. Your entertainment options range from bowling alleys to laser tag arenas, and you can also choose from 12 giant screens with stadium-style seating to catch your favorite new movie. Another popular destination in Maricopa is the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club which offers beautiful 360-degree views of the surrounding desert. You can also sign up your kids for Ak-Chin’s junior golf program where you can play alongside your son or daughter. We also cannot forget to mention the Copper Sky Recreation Complex where visitors have access to two full basketball courts, an indoor walking/running track, a fitness center, and an outdoor Aquatics Center. The center is certainly the place to be during those hot summer days as it features diving boards, a lazy river, and several water slides.
